Where do we eat?

Before quarantine, we would eat out at restaurants at least once or twice a week. We had a lot of neighborhood favorites, a few places we would frequent in other areas, a running list of new restaurants and bars to try, and spots we would just stumble upon.

COVID-19 changed all of that, but even in our new normal, we have still been able to order delivery and takeout and support our local restaurants and bars. Here is a map marking some of those places. If you are based in NYC and don’t feel like cooking at home, hit up one of these spots and enjoy a delicious meal!

What We've Been Eating

Tabetomo

Available online at Caviar.

If you can make it to the East Village, you can pick up delicious tsukemen (dipping style ramen) and karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken) from one of our favorite restaurants in NYC. Tip: for an additional $2, order the kae-dama (Japanese for “extra noodles”). You won’t regret having extra!

Mama Fina’s

Located a couple blocks from Tabetomo, Mama Fina’s is a Filipino restaurant that specializes in sisig. They make traditional pork sisig, but also variations including tuna belly, chicken, squid, or tofu. Make sure to get your sisig with garlic rice. Or make your own at home with my recipe!

Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop

Available online at Caviar.

The more casual offshoot of Paulie Gee’s pizzeria in Greenpoint, the Slice Shop makes an incredible sausage slice. Their sausage is unique in that it's incredibly thin and very reminiscent of pepperoni.

Fresh Kills Bar

Fresh Kills has been serving takeout cocktails (and soup) for the last few weeks… and we’ve been walking over every week to pick up their delicious piña coladas.

The Commodore

Available online at Caviar.

Speaking of tasty piña coladas, The Commodore is an old favorite for the frozen variety. To make things even better, you can also grab some of the best fried chicken in Brooklyn.

Blue Collar

Available online on all platforms.

I’ve been ordering roadside-style cheeseburgers from Blue Collar for years. The burgers are no frills. Meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and special sauce. When served fresh, Blue Collar’s fries are like elevated McDonald’s fries.

Campbell & Co.

campbellandco.nyc

My favorite cheese shop in Brooklyn that serves the best bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit in the city. They aren’t serving it now, but they make a tremendous whitefish salad. Memories. Campbell & Co. is operating like an online grocer. Order directly on their website for delivery or carryout.
